Dear Friends,
We are holding our biggest annual function DURGA PUJA on Saturday the 27th of October (just one monthfrom today) at the Days Inn Banquet Hall (1901 SW 13th Street,Gainesville, Florida 32608, Near Hospital / University) starting at 10AM and ending after a fantastic cultural program in the evening. Since the puja will be a whole day affair we will be serving prasad after the puja, vegetarian bhog in the afternoon and dinner at night (including one non-veg item). Dr. Bhaskar Bandyopadhyay has graciously agreed to conduct the Puja as he did last year. The cultural program will be a few hours long with at least couple of long programs of music and songs planned and room for other smaller items such as skits, plays, dances, recitation, shruti natok, etc etc. So this may be the occasion to showcase your hidden or known talents and start planning for any small item you would like to present.

A large function like this is simply not possible to organize without help from each and every individual of the community. Hence we are requesting every member of our community to help us with planning the small details so that this year's Durga Puja will be a grand success!
Please watch our next mail for a preliminary budget, suggested donation list and also for the different volunteering needs including help with puja details, cooking, transportation, decorations, serving,clean up, etc.

The dust from the juggernaut that was Durga Puja has not settled yet and we are looking forward to a new way to stir things up. All of you have made the Durga Puja a grand success, and we require the same enthusiasm, if not greater, from all of you to make our next endeavor a success close to the magnitude of 23rd October, 2010. We are planning a 'choruibhati' ( picnic for those who are ignorant of the Bengali word) to celebrate the grand success. Date: 20th November, 2010 Venue: North Pavilion of Lake Wauburg, Gainesville, Florida Timing: 11am - 4 pm Cost: Not yet decided Menu: Bhat ar 'kochi pantha'-r mangsher jhol ( Rice and mutton curry); I guess Indraneel-da will do something for vegans

We are welcoming Maa Durga in Gainesville on October 23rd at University Lions Club (3315 N Main Terrace Gainesville, FL 32609 map). We have planned the day tentatively as follows. Puja Starts at 10'o clock in the morning. Anjali is at 12 noon. Prasad will be distributed from 12:30. Lunch will be served from 1'o clock. Kichudi, Labra, Papad, Chutney, Payesh and Misti Cultural program will take place from 3 to 6 including an one hour Rabindra Sangeet performance. Tea, Adda and Aarti at 6:30 Dinner from 7 p.m. Polao, Chicken, Chana (Veg), Aloo chole (Veg), Chutney, Misti Doi and Misti. Biswarjan and Sindur Khela from 8:30. Wrap-up at 9. Lastly, we have received donations from most of you. Please contact us if you haven't given yours already. The rates are as follows. Family: $60 Student : $15 Unfunded Student / Spouse : $8 Non-student Individual: $25 Non-student spouse: $15 |
